India tops Japan-Singapore in Passport Index




India's performance in the Passport Index has deteriorated over the past one year. India slipped six places to 20th. Japan and Singapore were joint first on the list. Holders of passports from both these countries can travel to a maximum of 15 countries visa free.
The list of travel friendly passports is revealed in the Hanley Index. The list of powerful passports is based on the number of countries in which a passport holder can enter without a visa. The country whose citizens can travel to most countries without a visa is called the most powerful passport and the ranking is made that way.
In the new list of 2021, Japan-Singapore was given the first rank. The ranking of these two countries was 13. Germany, South Korea were ranked second, Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain third, Austria, Denmark fourth and France, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden fifth.
Belgium, New Zealand, Switzerland were ranked sixth. Countries like Britain, America, Norway, Malta, Greece, Czech Republic were jointly ranked seventh. Passport holders from these countries can travel visa free to 15 countries around the world.
India was ranked 7th in the list last year, but this time it was ranked 50th. Citizens of India can travel to 6 countries without a visa. Faso of Tajikistan, Burkina Faso was joint 20th with India.
Passports of India's neighbors Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal were considered the weakest. Countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan were last ranked 10th among the countries with the weakest passports. Pakistan's score was only 21. Afghanistan got only 4 points.
