India too can be plunged into darkness: only four days' worth of coal

New Delhi: The same crisis that befell China is now looming over India as well. India currently has only four days' supply of coal. Even though India has made great strides in the field of renewable energy, the fact remains that only 70 per cent of the country's electricity needs are met by coal-fired power plants. Coal scarcity has a direct impact on electricity generation. Very little stock of coal has grown in coal-fired power plants. This is not the only situation in India. The situation is similar in China. So China is eager to buy coal at all costs. Most of China's energy needs are met by coal.

The power expert believes that there is no shortage of coal in the country, the reason for the current crisis is the decline in its mining. After mining the coal is cleaned and delivered to different centers. This time there is trouble in all three places. Thus coal management is a big problem.

Among other reasons, the old method of carpentry is also a problem. Along with this, heavy rains in the country have also affected the transportation of coal. High quality coal is imported from abroad due to poor efficiency of coal from Indian mines. This problem can be avoided by proper management of coal. There are some power plants in the country where stocks have risen as little as three to five days.

Out of about 135 thermal plants in the country, 100 plants have very low coal content. The country's 13 plants have about two hours of stock left. Coal is also understaffed at these locations. Coal is also thought to be significantly understaffed. Under these circumstances, power shortage in the country may occur due to shortage of coal.
