In the previous year 2016-17, the government had given Rs. 2.15 lakh crore.
Asked about the reduction in excise duty at a time when petrol and diesel prices are skyrocketing in the country, Union Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said the government could not kill itself with an ax by reducing excise duty. He also mentioned the oil bonds taken in the UPA government. He said that the central government has allocated Rs. 1.5 lakh crore for oil bonds as principal. 2,500 crore has been paid.
