For the first time since independence, major reforms have been made in the defense sector: PM

New delhi date. 13
For the first time since independence, India has undergone major reforms in the defense sector and a more transparent, confident and technological approach has been adopted than ever before, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday. The Prime Minister also inaugurated seven defense companies.
Dedicating seven defense companies to the nation, the Prime Minister referred to the Self-Reliant India Campaign and said his goal was to make the country the world's largest military superpower. Seven state-owned companies were formed after the dissolution of the 400-year-old Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), a major reform in the defense sector. OFB's assets, including 21 ordnance factories, have been transferred to these seven new companies.
PM Modi said that his goal is for these companies to not only excel in their products, but also become global brands. During the First World War, the whole world saw the strength of India's ordnance factories and they used better resources and world-class expertise, but after independence these companies were ignored and the main reason was the country's dependence on foreign supplies.
"After independence, we needed to upgrade these factories and adopt new technology," Modi said. But he was not noticed. Over time, India became dependent on other countries for its strategic needs. These seven new companies will play a key role in changing this situation. Rs. The order book of over Rs 2,000 crore reflects the country's growing confidence in these companies. Among the seven new companies in the defense sector is Munitions India Ltd. (MIL), Armored Vehicles Corporation Limited (AVANI), Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Ltd. (AWE India), Troops Comforts Ltd. (TCL), Yantra India Ltd. (YIL), India Optel Ltd. (IOL) and Gliders India Ltd. (GIL).
