Arrests of 16 proselytizers: Millions from Britain, US, Gulf countries revealed

Lucknow: A case of illegal mass conversion came to light in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh ATSA, which is probing the case, has arrested a total of 16 people. Two of them were in contact with Al Qaeda. The two accused had amassed crores of rupees through hawala and used it in illegal conversions. There was a lot of funding from the Gulf countries for this. Evidence of which has been handed over to the ATS.

The large-scale proselytizing syndicate was nabbed after the interrogation of Maulana Umar Gautam and Jahangir Alam, who were arrested from Delhi on June 20. The syndicate was receiving massive funding from abroad. This foreign funding is mentioned in the second chargesheet filed by the UP ATS against 10 accused so far.

The chargesheet states that Rs 89 crore was received by the syndicate through hawala. Umar Gautam was first a Hindu and later converted to Islam, after which he converted other Hindus to Islam either illegally or by giving them greed. He has converted many such people and offered them money in return.

Umar Hassan's Al Hassan Education and Welfare Foundation was given Rs 57 crore by Britain's Alfalah Trust. The Jamia Imam Waliullah Trust, an organization of Maulana Kalim, also received a fund of Rs 22 crore. The funds came in large quantities from London, America, the Gulf countries. At the same time, evidence has been found that these two individuals are also in contact with Al Qaeda.
