Drugs worth Rs 5 crore seized from Assam and Orissa: 3 arrested


The vigilance of the police in both the states yielded fruitful results

Assam Police nabbed two persons traveling in a bus from Manipur to Guwahati

Dipu: As a result of the vigilance of Assam and Orissa police, a total of Rs. Drugs worth Rs 5 crore were seized, and a total of 3 people were arrested.

Police from Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Thursday recovered Rs. 4 crore worth of heroin was seized and 2 persons were arrested while Rs. A drug peddler with brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore was speeding.

Police seized 584 grams of heroin hidden in 48 boxes of soap from two people traveling in a bus from Manipur to Guwahati while they were checking vehicles as per routine at Lahirijan in Karbi Wanglong district in Assam. The two passengers from Manipur were later taken into police custody for further questioning, an Assam police official said.

Similarly, a man from Murshidabad in West Bengal was found on the National Highway near Tangi on Wednesday night with Rs. Rangehath was caught red-handed with 1.04 grams of heroin worth Rs 1 crore, an official statement issued by Orissa police said.

In Assam, police also recovered Rs. 10 lakh worth of drugs were seized. The man was arrested under the NDPS Act and will now be produced before a Cuttack Special Judge cum District and Sessions Judge, a police statement said.
