Delta variant outcry: Corona death toll rises to 5 million worldwide

The Corona epidemic still kills people every minute of the world

The total death toll in the US exceeds seven million, with new cases feared to rise after November: one-third of the population has not yet been vaccinated despite the corona vaccine being available in the US for six months.

Shahid, president of the UN General Assembly, said he had taken both doses of the Indian corona vaccine Covishield

WASHINGTON: The death toll from the corona epidemic has surpassed 5 million worldwide as the Delta variant of the corona vaccine suffers massively. The Delta variant has exposed the disparity between the rich and the poor in the case of corona vaccine.

The first dose of the corona vaccine has not yet reached more than half of the countries in the world. It took almost a year for the death toll from the Corona epidemic to reach 2.5 million, but another 2.5 million deaths were recorded in 236 days, according to an analysis by a news agency.

More than half of the world's deaths due to corona have been reported in the US, Russia, Brazil, Mexico and India. The world recorded an average of 8,000 deaths a day last week. I.e. five deaths per minute. Recently there has been a focus on vaccinating corona in poor countries but a third booster dose has been introduced in rich countries.

The World Health Organization said its Covax vaccine distribution program would now prioritize the countries with the fewest vaccines distributed. The corona vaccine has been distributed to 140 countries under the Covacs since January, depending on the size of the population. It has been changing since October.

One-third of the population in the US has not yet been vaccinated against corona. Corona's death toll in the US has crossed seven million. Currently, there has been a decline in new cases and hospitalizations, but with the onset of winter, new cases may increase as activities become more concentrated at home. It took three-and-a-half months to reach six million to seven million deaths in the US.

The death toll of seven million for medical professionals is disappointing as all Americans have been receiving the corona vaccine for six months but 70 million Americans are still unwilling to be vaccinated. Even today, more than one million new corona cases are being reported in the US every day, with an average of 1,900 deaths per day.

"We handed over the hospital to military doctors and nurses in August when there were more patients than the hospital's capacity," said Dr. Catherine O'Neill, chief medical officer at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Now that the situation has improved, the military team will leave at the end of October, but the number of Corona cases is expected to increase again by the end of November.

Corona's daily mortality is setting new records for four consecutive days in Russia, with the highest daily mortality recorded at 887 on Friday. Only 33 percent of Russia's population has received the first dose of the corona vaccine. However, South America has the highest concentration of corona in the world. Latin America accounts for 21 per cent of the total deaths, followed by North America with 14 per cent and Eastern Europe with 14 per cent.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Shahid, president of the 76th UN General Assembly, said he had taken two doses of Covishield, a corona vaccine produced in India. "I do not know in how many countries this vaccine, developed by the British-Swedish pharma company AstraZeneca and manufactured by the Serum Institute in Pune, is acceptable," he said at his first press conference. The government, meanwhile, has issued a new advisory warning its citizens to take similar action against India as the UK has taken against India.
