New delhi date. Monday, October 18, 2021

In the midst of rising pollution levels in Delhi, the Kejriwal government has questioned the straw burning incidents in Punjab and Haryana, citing an image released by a NASA satellite. At the same time, the environment minister has called the Odd-Even formula the ultimate weapon in combating pollution.

According to Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai, a study was conducted last year on the rising pollution in Delhi. It found that while straw burning was on the rise in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, Delhi's pollution levels were also on the rise. The level of the Air Quality Index was 171 on October 13 this year.

According to NASA photos, the incidence of straw burning was low that day. But in the last 3 days, the incidence of straw burning has increased in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. With that speed, the AQI level reached 284 on Saturday.

As many as 2,500 volunteers will be deployed on 100 4 roads in Delhi under the 'Red Light on Vehicle Off' campaign starting today. Of these, 10-10 will be deployed at 90 four lanes and 20-20 environment marshals at 10 major four lanes. Civil defense personnel on all four roads will carry placards in their hands urging people to turn off the engine at red lights.
