Islamabad, Dt
Pakistan, which finances terrorism, is likely to remain on the FATF's gray list until April next year. Pakistan has failed to stop terrorists from receiving financial support and money laundering.
According to sources, a three-day meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) will begin in Paris on Wednesday to discuss how Pakistan has worked on six points to curb money laundering and terror funding and to examine its efforts in this regard. But Pakistan has failed to implement its plans on these issues. Therefore, it is likely to remain in the gray list till April 202 next year.
At the last meeting, Pakistan failed miserably to work on six of the nine-point agenda, including enhancing international co-operation and co-operating with any other country seeking assistance in line with UN Security Council criteria. When and how much financial assistance from the IMF, the United Nations, etc. will be based on the review during the FATF assessment.
As a result, it is imperative for Pakistan, which is facing an economic crisis, to meet these criteria. At its meeting on June 9 this year, the ATF decided to keep Pakistan on the gray list. If Pakistan's situation worsens, it could be moved from the gray list to the black list. Led by Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan is struggling to work on all five issues of the ATF's action plan.
