China, Bhutan agree on 'three-step road map'

- Bhutan and China have been holding talks on India and its borders since 1984: Arvind Bagchi

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was drawn up on Thursday (May 17) on the border issue between Bhutan and China. The two countries have also agreed to hold border talks as soon as possible. It is also possible to discuss Doklam which India has taken note of again.

In this regard, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arvindam Bagchi said that Bhutan, like India, was discussing the 15th border dispute with China. At this point, when reporters asked, "Why would Doklam have been mentioned in the talks between the two countries and in the resolution passed at the end of it, and also in handing over control to China?" "At this stage, I don't want to comment on that," Bagchi said.

Analysts say the talks must have covered Doklam. The details regarding Doklam are as follows.

* In 2014, China started building infrastructure in Doklama on the Indo-China-Bhutan border. Against which India protested.

* China then said it was a border dispute with Bhutan.

* India stood there as a watchdog and for 3 days the Indian forces were standing firm against the Chinese forces.

* Finally, the controversy ended with 'political-maturity' in which no one lost an inch of land.

It is worth mentioning that this announcement was not made by China-Bhutan all of a sudden. It has been under discussion since April this year. The two sides also agreed on a 'three-step roadmap' to move the border debate forward soon.

Border talks between China and Bhutan are mainly focused on two valleys. That is 'Pasamlung Jarling' valley is another issue. Doklam Valley, Doklam Valley area is located on the triangle of India-China and Bhutan borders.

The controversy over the Bhutan-based Sakteng Century suddenly erupted last year when India and the Galvan Valley incident were happening. In fact, there was no controversy about this Sakteng-Century before.

On the other hand, Bhutanese Foreign Minister Tandi Dorji and Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Wu. Jianghao has signed the MOU.

This MOU will give impetus to the border talks between the two countries and will lead to a successful conclusion of the talks in a manner acceptable to both the countries. The Bhutanese government said in a statement.
