15 killed, 21 injured in Uttar Pradesh bus-truck collision


At least 15 people were killed and 21 others injured when a bus collided with a truck laden with sand near Baburi village in Barabanki district, police said in a statement.

Barabanki Superintendent of Police Yamuna Prasad said a bus collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction on the Kursi-Deva road in the morning when a cow suddenly came across a bus heading from Delhi to Bahraich. The bus was carrying 70 passengers at the time of the accident. Of these, 9 people died on the spot and 6 others died during treatment at the hospital.

Prasad further said that a total of 27 people were injured in the incident and they were taken to the hospital for treatment. Of these, 6 died during treatment. Eleven patients are undergoing treatment at King George Medical University in Lucknow while four others are undergoing treatment. The remaining injured have been released after first aid.

President Ramnath Kovinde has expressed grief over the incident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased. While compensation of Rs 50,000 has been announced for the injured. Chief Minister Adityanath has directed the Sruthanik administration to provide the best treatment to the injured.
