WhatsApp blocked more than 3 million Indian accounts


New Delhi: More than 3 million Indian accounts have been blocked by WhatsApp between June 16 and July 31, the company said in its compliance report on Tuesday. The actual number of suspended accounts is 30 lakh 27,000. The messaging platform has received 594 complaints during this period. These accounts have been suspended due to various complaints.

These complaints include unauthorized use of automated messages etc. WhatsApp said in its latest report that it has received 594 user reports. There were 137 user reports for account support, 316 for ban appeal, 45 for other support, 64 for product support and 32 for security between June 16 and July 31. Action was taken on 74 accounts during this period. This measure means either banning the account or restoring the account.

The company said several reports have been reviewed, but for a number of reasons it has not been included in the list of actions or measures. This may require the user to access the account for his account or to use certain features, the user has taken action to restore the banned account and the request has been denied or the reported accounts do not violate the laws of India or the Terms of Service of WhatsApp. It is included, the news agency said.

Some social media intermediaries in India publish their compliance reports as per IT Rule 2021. According to IT Rules 2021, we have published the second monthly report for the period of 46 days from June 16 to July 31, said a spokesperson for WhatsApp. The new IT rules came into force on May 26. According to the rule, a large digital platform with more than 50 lakh users will have to submit a compliance report every month, detailing the complaints received and the action taken.
