Unique experiment of Shikhar Tirth Jatra for 10 days to 10 winners of 30 days digital fasting competition

Ahmedabad, September 6, 2021, Monday

In addition to bread, clothing and housing, mobiles have become an integral part of life in modern times, but the increasing misuse of mobiles is causing depression among teenagers and young adults. At such a time, a Jain Foundation, founded by Ramesh Kumar Shah of Bangalore, has launched a unique initiative under Digital Fasting Next Jain, which aims to reduce mobile usage. According to the information received so far, a total of 4,000 people from Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad are abandoning their mobiles through digital fasting, including 200 from Ahmedabad. The Jain Foundation believes that digital fasting is an effective means of controlling mobile usage in the same way that we can control hunger by fasting. Adults in India spend an average of 2.50 hours a day on mobile, so digital fasting or mobile fasting has become a necessity for young people.

However, the main purpose of this digital fast is to connect the present generation with the basic values of Jainism. The less the new generation uses mobiles, the better their family, spiritual life will be. Participants in this digital fasting get a scorecard (reward) according to their category. The amount equal to this reward point is given by the Jain Foundation in Sukrut i.e. in religious devotion, Jivadaya etc. whose e-receipt is sent to the participant. The top ten winners participating in this digital fasting will be taken on a 3-day Sametshikharji Jatra. Talking about this, Jain expert and researcher Jitendrabhai Shah says that the foundation has started a new experiment of digital fasting in addition to schools, pilgrimages, scriptures under the digital lecture series which is welcome.

There are points for not using mobile from 9 in the morning to 9 at night

This digital fasting has started from last 5th July which will last till 10th September 2021 i.e. a total of 90 days. Scorecard document is sent to the registrant. Surprisingly, the participants in this digital fasting fill in the scorecards on their own every day. These scorecards have been decided on the exact points of not using mobile from 9 am to 9 pm. People who can't give up mobile for 12 hours can do mobile fasting for a minimum of 3 hours. The Jain Foundation team also provides information about this through WhatsApp group.
