Toolkit case: Chhattisgarh government has nothing else to do: Supreme Court

New Delhi: Former BJP chief minister Raman Singh and spokesperson Sambit Patra have commented on Twitter on an alleged toolkit created by the Congress party, prompting the Chhattisgarh Congress government to file a case against them and order an inquiry. The High Court had stayed the government's action to probe the two leaders. The Chhattisgarh government had approached the Supreme Court against the order. The Supreme Court slammed the Chhattisgarh government on the issue, saying "you have nothing else to do." Please spend your energy not on such works but on public service.

A bench of Justices BR Gawai and Hima Kohli refused to intervene in the High Court order and asked the High Court to take a speedy decision in the case.

NSUI president Akanksha Sharma had lodged an FIR in Chhattisgarh against a tweet by Raman Singh and Sambit Patra after it came out that the alleged toolkit brought by the Congress was meant to defame the country. He was accused of inciting unrest by spreading lies.

After hearing the BJP leaders' submissions, the High Court on June 11 stayed the probe against them, saying that the allegations made in the FIR did not disturb any political peace and it was clear that the allegations were motivated by political motives. This is clearly a political feud between the two parties.

The High Court said that it was prima facie clear that the FIR was politically motivated. Challenging the order, the state government told the apex court that the high court had mistakenly granted them interim bail.
