Sidhu annoyed by the neglect of cabinet composition and portfolio allocation

Chandigarh, Ta. 3

In Punjab, Pradesh Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu has resigned, saying he could not compromise on his own. Sidhu did not give any clear reason for his resignation in his letter to Sonia Gandhi. However, Sidhu is said to be annoyed that he was not made the chief minister.

In the Punjab Congress, Sunil Jakhar was replaced by Sidhu two and a half months ago. Now it is believed that Priyanka Gandhi will try to persuade Sidhu. Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channy has also said that he will try to allay his resentment by talking to Sidhu.

Sources said that Sidhu's displeasure was heightened by several other reasons besides being annoyed that he was not made the Chief Minister. Rana Gurjeet Singh was made a minister despite Sidhu's opposition. In addition, Sukhjinder Randhawa was given the Home Department in the cabinet expansion. Kuljit Nagra was not included in the cabinet. Not only that, Sidhu was not asked about the composition of the cabinet and the division of portfolios to the ministers. In addition, Sidhu was unhappy with the appointment of APS Deol as Advocate General of Punjab. Deol has already filed a case against the government in a rudeness case. Apart from this, he has also fought the case of Captain Amarinder Singh and former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini. Sidhu did not want Deol to be given the post of Attorney General.

Sidhu had long been keen to remove Captain Amarinder Singh from the post of Chief Minister. In the end they managed to create an atmosphere against Captain Amarinder in the party. As a result, Amarinder had to resign as Chief Minister. Sidhu had hoped that the High Command would present him as the Chief Minister as an alternative to the Captain, but in the Congress assembly party meeting, Sidhu got the support of only 12 MLAs. As a result, the party made a different face, Charanjit Singh Channy, the chief minister. Sidhu was also annoyed that no work was being done on mining. Following these grievances, Sidhu announced his resignation from the post of state president on the day the portfolio was handed over to the ministers.
