Rose storm hits Odisha-Andhra coast, killing two fishermen


The wind blew at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour

New Delhi: Hurricane Rose has hit coastal areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh with strong winds blowing at 100 kmph. As a result, six fishermen went missing in Andhra Pradesh, two of whom have died, two have been rescued and one is still missing.

The meteorological department has forecast that the storm will pass between Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Gopalpur in Odisha around 1 am on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today tweeted about Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Andhra Chief Minister Y.S. Talking to Jagan Mohan Reddy, help from the Center has been ensured.

According to the meteorological department, the storm will enter from the coastal area between Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Gopalpur district in Odisha and will move at an initial speed of 25 kmph after hitting the land area.

Five fishermen were drowned when a boat capsized off the coast of Mandasa in Andhra Pradesh due to a hurricane and they are still missing and their search is on. Sumit Kumar, collector of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh, says the next few hours are very serious for the coastal areas. The wind is likely to blow here at a speed of 90 to 100 kilometers per hour.
