Public IIT, Madras ranks first in list of top educational institutions in the country

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings were announced today by the Ministry of Education. According to this ranking, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras ranks first. For the third year in a row, IIT, Madras has been ranked first. The Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bengaluru tops the list of research institutes.

The sixth edition of the NIRF rankings has been announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are among the top ten educational institutions in the country. These seven IITs include IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee.

In the overall ranking, Jawaharlal Nehru University is ranked ninth and Benaras Hindu University is ranked tenth. IISC Bengaluru ranks first in the university category while JNU ranks second and BHU third.

The university category is followed by Calcutta University, Amrut Vishwa Vidyapeeth, Jamia Millia Islamia, Manipal Academy for Higher Education, Jadavpur University, University of Hyderabad and Aligarh Muslim University respectively.

The Minister said that the rankings have been given keeping in view the quality of the organization. IITs are ranked in the top eight in the category of engineering institutes. These include Madras, Delhi, Bombay, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Rurki, Guwahati and Hyderabad respectively. In this category, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli is ranked ninth and NIT, Suratkal is ranked tenth.

In the college category, Miranda College came first, Lady Shri Ram College for Women came second and Loyola College, Chennai came third. Set Xavier's College, Kolkata is ranked fourth, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandir, Howrah is ranked fifth, PGSR Krishnamal College for Women is ranked sixth, Coimbatore is ranked sixth and Presidency College, Chennai is ranked seventh.

St. Stephen's College, Hindu College and Shri Ram College of Delhi University are ranked eighth, ninth and tenth respectively. In the business school category, IIM, Ahmedabad came first, IIM, Bangalore second and IIM Calcutta third.

In the pharmacy category, Delhi Jamia Hamdard ranks first, Punjab University, Chandigarh second and Birla Institute of Science and Technology (BITS), Pilani third. In the medical category, AIIMS, Dilrahi first, PGIMER, Chandigarh second and Christian Medical College, Vellore third.
