Political parties of farmers' organizations are requested to suspend the election campaign

Farmer leaders urged not to campaign for political parties till Punjab election date is announced

New Delhi: Farmers' organizations protesting against the Centre's agriculture law have appealed to political parties to suspend their campaign till the Punjab Assembly election program is announced so that all eyes are on their agitation. Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal, who is scheduled to meet Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders, said he would consult the party leadership before taking any decision on the issue.

The Congress delegation was led by Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. Tweeting after the meeting, Sidhu said the meeting with the United Kisan Morcha was positive. Apart from both the parties, representatives of AAP, BSP, Lok Insaf Party and Shiromani Akali Dal also attended the meeting. Only the BJP was not invited.

The Shiromani Akali Dal, meanwhile, urged farmers' organizations not to ban political activities in Punjab. Opposing organizations should also maintain their national identity.

"We appeal to the parties not to hold election-oriented programs till the date of elections is announced," Rajewal told reporters after the five-hour meeting. However, the parties that will campaign before the announcement of the election will be considered anti-peasant parties. However, political parties can hold small functions that do not attract large crowds. Rajewal said all these political parties have to be in support of the farmers' organizations. ૩૨ Farmers 'organizations have formed a united farmers' front under one banner.
