Like pilots, truck drivers also have fixed driving hours

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has emphasized on keeping fixed hours of driving like a pilot for a commercial truck driver to reduce road accidents. He also recommended having on-board sleep detection sensors in commercial vehicles.

The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways said on Twitter that there should be fixed hours of driving for truck drivers as well as pilots to reduce road accidents.

He further said that the authorities have been instructed to work on installing on-board sleep detection sensors as per the European standard in commercial vehicles. The Minister further said that he would also write a letter to the Chief Ministers and District Collectors for regular holding of District Road Committee meetings.

Gadkari had earlier attended the first meeting of the new members of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC). The Minister has directed the Council to hold a meeting every two months and share updates.

During the meeting, various members made several suggestions to improve road safety. Gadkari advised the members to work in various fields to save lives of the people. The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways General VK Singh and senior officials.
