Delhi receives one-day maximum rainfall in 19 years in September: 8 killed in Uttar Pradesh


In Delhi, 4.5 inches of rain flooded low-lying areas

The country will receive 24 per cent less rainfall than normal in August but more than normal in September: Indian Meteorological Department

New Delhi: Delhi received 4.5 inches of rain in a single day today. September is the heaviest single day in 19 years. The low-lying areas of the city were flooded due to 4.5 inches of rain.

The previous record was 126.8 mm on September 13, 2002. When 172.6 mm of rain fell on September 16, 1963. Heavy rains affected 25 trains. It rained in northern India today, including Delhi. A total of eight people have been killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh.

The meteorological department said it was difficult for a small area like Delhi to forecast the weather in two to three days in advance. Five people, including three children, have been killed in an electric shock in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

The Indian Meteorological Department, meanwhile, said the country received 24 per cent less rainfall than normal in August. However, the meteorological department has forecast more than normal rainfall in the country in September.

According to Mritunjay Mohapatra, Director General, India Meteorological Department (IMD), many parts of central India will receive above normal rainfall in September.
