A woman wearing a sari was not allowed to enter Akila restaurant in a posh area of ​​Delhi and a scuffle broke out between the woman and the restaurant staff. The restaurant only allows entry with smart casual. Women journalist Anita Chaudhary shared a 10-second video on her Facebook account on September 30. People who came across this video on social media expressed outrage against the restaurant.

One user wrote, "Why is there such a mentality in India when there is no ban on sari even in Christian-Muslim countries?" The controversy has also raised questions about the restaurant's rating on sites such as Swiggy and Zomato. Now the National Commission for Women (NCW) has also jumped into the controversy. The National Commission for Women has directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to investigate the incident and take necessary action.

The NCW said it had also asked the restaurant's marketing and PR director to appear before it on September 9 with supporting evidence and documents. Sari is a part of Indian culture and most of the women in the country wear sari. So refusing to allow a woman to enter a restaurant based on her dress is tantamount to trampling on her right to live with dignity.
