6.0 magnitude earthquake shakes Mexico

A man has been killed in a powerful earthquake near Pacific Resort City in Acapulco, southwestern Mexico. The magnitude of the quake was seven magnitudes. The quake was so strong that many buildings in Mexico City shook. As a result, people rushed out of their houses in panic and gathered on the road.

The epicenter was reported at 12 km northeast of Acapulco, according to the US Geological Survey. A resident of Acapulco said on the phone that we heard a loud noise from the building. A sound was heard from the windows. Household items began to fall and the power supply was cut off. Water came out of the pool. Water was leaking in many places.

However, no tsunami alert was issued by the authorities. Acapulco Mayor Adela Roman said the condition was not serious and no major damage had been reported so far.

He further said that people are worried about aftershocks. Gas leakage has also been observed in several places. Mexico's President Andres Manuel Lopez also said the quake affected four states the most. However, no serious or major damage was reported in these four states.

Mexico's National Civil Defense also said damage was being reviewed in ten states but no major damage was reported in any of the states.
