Villagers threatening PM's boycott in Varanasi constituency

Many villages in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency, have been hit by floods. Rivers in two districts of UP are flowing on two banks due to rains in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and water released from dams. The villages of Varanasi are also not left due to the floods. In Varanasi, the river Ganga is flowing above the danger mark and the water level is still rising.

The floods have created flood-like conditions in urban as well as rural areas. The condition of Ramna village in Varanasi, which is very famous for vegetable cultivation, is such that more than half of the villages there have been submerged. The Ganges has flooded most of the farms and boats are plying in it. In this regard, the villagers, led by the village minister, have also warned of boycotting the 2022 assembly elections in case the embankment is not closed.

Ramna village of Rohania assembly constituency of Varanasi falls in Lanka region. Apart from vegetable cultivation, this area has gained fame not only in India but also abroad for papadi cultivation. The village is also a source of vegetable supply in the entire eastern region. The village is currently under discussion as the situation has become uncontrollable due to floods. More than 40,000 people face this problem every year due to the severity of the floods.

With a population of about 40,000, the village has 15,000 voters. 70% of the village population is dependent on vegetable farming. More than half of the farms have been submerged due to floods in the Ganges.
