Uttarakhand: Heavy rains wreak havoc at Dharchula, several houses damaged, more than 5 people missing, 2 bodies found


- Meteorological department forecast heavy rains in Nainital and Pithoragarh districts of the state in next 24 hours

Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand was devastated by heavy rains late Sunday night. In Jumma village of Dharchula, about 5 residential houses at Jamuni Tok and 2 residential houses at Siroudyar Tok have been damaged. About 5 people are reported missing and 2 bodies have been found so far.

Collector Dr. Ashish Chauhan said that 7 people were reported trapped in the rubble due to heavy rains in Jumma village late last night. As soon as the notification was received, Revenue, SSB, Police, SDRF and rescue team rushed to the spot. An NDRF team was also sent. Meanwhile 2 bodies were found from the village.

The DMA held a meeting with officials and directed them to send relief materials in addition to relief and rescue work at the scene.

Yellow alert

The meteorological department has forecast heavy rains in Nainital and Pithoragarh districts of the state in the next 24 hours. The meteorological department has issued yellow alerts in these districts. Meteorologists have also forecast light to moderate rains with heavy thunderstorms in other districts of the state.

Light to moderate rains are also expected in and around the capital Doon.
