The word 'East Pakistan' will be removed from the caste certificate issued to the displaced Bengali community in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday announced that the certificate issued for the Bengali community would not mention 'East Pakistan'.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami during a meeting with residents of Shaktipharm area in Sitarganj constituency led by BJP MLA Saurabh Bahuguna.

According to a government release, the announcement meets the age-old demand of the displaced Bengali community living in Udham Singh Nagar district to remove the word East Pakistan from their caste certificates.

CM Dhami said a proposal to remove the word 'East Pakistan' from the caste certificate issued to the displaced Bengali community would be brought to the state cabinet meeting soon. On the occasion, the Chief Minister also announced that Shaktipharm would be made a sub-tehsil. The Chief Minister himself informed about this by tweeting.

Sitarganj MLA Saurabh Bahuguna told Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami that there are about 2 lakh Bengalis living in Udham Singh Nagar and the seal of 'East Pakistan' on their certificates is insulting.
