Three petitions to the Supreme Court on the Pegasus issue

Demand for formation of SIT under Supreme Court to investigate Pegasus chapter

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear the Pegasus espionage case on August 5. Senior journalists N Ram and Shashikumar have filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking an independent inquiry into the Pegasus espionage case.

A bench of Supreme Court Chief Justice NV Raman and Justice Suryakant will hear the Pegasus case on August 5. Three separate petitions have been filed alleging that government agencies have used Israeli spyware Pegasus to spy on prominent citizens, politicians, businessmen, journalists and judges.

On July 30, the court said it would hear a petition filed by journalists N Ram and Shashikumar. Senior counsel Kapil Sibal, who was present on behalf of the journalists, said it was necessary to hold an urgent hearing in view of the possible impact of the matter.

This case is an issue connected with the freedom of citizens and national security. His petition states that such an exercise is being carried out by agencies and organizations within India to suppress freedom of expression and expression of dissatisfaction.

The petition also seeks that the court direct the Center to determine whether the government or any of its agencies have obtained its license for any type of surveillance, directly or indirectly, to use Pegasus spyware.

The petition has been filed by advocates ML Sharma and John Brits in addition to N Ram and Kumar on the Pegasus issue. Thus a total of three petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court on the Pegasus issue.
