The number of flood victims in Assam has risen to 1.5 lakh

The flood situation in Assam has worsened and the number of flood victims has crossed 1.5 lakh. Eleven districts have been affected by the floods, the Assam State Disaster Management Agency (ASDMA) said in a statement.

Heavy rains have caused floods in Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhemaji, Diburgarh, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia.

The ASDMA bulletin said there was no loss of human or animal life due to the floods and rains. So far, 12 people and 20 animals have been rescued by boats.

A total of 212 people have been shifted to 6 relief camps. However, a total of 9 villages have been declared affected due to the floods. Bongaigaon has the highest number of affected people at 6.41. Floodwaters in Bongaigaon and Dhemaji have damaged 12 roads.
