Mock drills for NSG commandos to deal with hijack-like situations in the country

NSG commandos have conducted coordinated mock drills in several cities of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and National Capital Region (NCR) as part of the anti-terrorism operation.

The mock drill is being conducted nationwide by the National Security Guard (NSG) to investigate their quick response to situations like hostage and hijacking. This is the third edition of a week-long annual mock drill called 'Gandiv'. This mock drill of NSG has started from 5th August in many places in the country and will continue till 9th ​​August. Arjuna's bow was named in the Gandhian Mahabharata. "The exercise will cover potential targets in NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and several cities in Gujarat," the NSG said. The drill will be conducted to plan and test the effectiveness of commando operations in the event of a terrorist attack, hijacking or hostage situation.

Mock drills of Armed Commandos will be conducted in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in Gujarat. The West Indian state has been selected on the basis of risk assessment and recommendations of the state government. He added that the NSG has selected nine important buildings and eight locations for mock drills, including educational institutions, hotels, government offices and business areas. The exercise will help improve the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the state administration, police, anti-terrorist squad to enhance their counter-terrorism operations skills as well as spread awareness among the people. Officials from the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Central Armed Police Force, state agencies and foreign delegations will oversee the exercise.
