Fear in Greece: Uncontrolled forest fire on the fifth day, many houses burnt to ashes

The forest fires in the European country of Greece could not be contained even on the fifth day. There is an atmosphere of fear in the surrounding areas due to the fire and some people are being forced to leave their homes in fear. Six cities are reportedly on alert due to the fire. Smoke billows into the sky north of Athens. The flames are so bright that it has reached near the beach.

Extreme heat in the country due to uncontrollable fires

Three major forest fires are currently raging in Greece. Which is the result of the worst heatwave in three decades. The mercury reached 45 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, a volunteer firefighter died Friday and at least 20 people were treated in hospital last week.

The country's second-largest island, Avia, east of Athens, caught fire on Tuesday. The fire burned thousands of acres of ancient forest resources that tore apart the northern part of the country.


64 forest areas in Greece still on fire

Firefighters faced dangerous, unprecedented conditions as they battled 154 forest fires. There were 64 forest areas still burning at night. Evacuation orders were issued for dozens of villages on the mainland and the surrounding island of Evia, as well as evacuation of remote settlements along the wild coast of Athens. Millions of homes and businesses have been destroyed by this dangerous fire. However officials have not yet been able to provide detailed figures.
