Drone attack on Saudi airport: Eight injured


New Delhi: A drone strike has hit an airport in Saudi Arabia. Eight of them have been seriously injured. One passenger plane was also damaged. According to Saudi official media, the Saudi airport was targeted during the fighting against Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Fighting is raging in Yemen between Houthi rebels and the Saudi army. So far no force has claimed responsibility for the attack. This is the second attack in the last three hours. However the airport has been targeted for the first time.

A Saudi-led military coalition fighting Iranian-backed Shiite rebels in Yemen has not provided details on the attack. Nothing was said about the casualties in the attack. The army said only that security forces had stopped the explosive drone.

Yemen's Houthi rebels, who have been facing a Saudi-led military alliance since 2014, have been targeting military units inside Saudi Arabia. There are also international airports targeting the rebels. It also attacks important oil plants in the state.

Yemen has long been facing a civil war. Houthi rebels have seized the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. He has ruled most of the country. Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi has fled the country due to the attack. Saudi Arabia is in support of Mansour Hadi and is fighting the Houthi rebels.
