Challenges the Supreme Court's decision to reject the petition seeking ballot papers

(PTI) New delhi date. 13

The Supreme Court has challenged the Delhi High Court's order rejecting a petition seeking holding of ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the upcoming elections in the country.

The application was rejected by a division bench of the High Court on August 3. The High Court in its judgment said that baseless allegations have been made in the petition.

A petition filed in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court's ruling claims that postal ballot voting is more reliable and transparent than EVMs.

The petition further states that the safety, accuracy and reliability of electronic voting machines are being questioned all over the world. The petition states that EVMs are not used in elections in some developed countries of the world.

The Delhi High Court in its judgment said that the petitioner did not present any concrete evidence in support of his claim. The High Court said that the petitioner had filed the petition on the basis of only a few news items.
