Third wave expected in the country, increase in corona cases in 4 districts

(PTI) New Delhi, Dt

Corona cases dropped to less than 20,000 in India on Tuesday, the lowest in three months. However, fears that the country may be heading for a third wave of corona have reportedly slowed down, with more than 10 per cent corona positive in the last few weeks in nine districts in 12 states. The health ministry told the Rajya Sabha that the number of corona victims in the country is more than once.

The health ministry said 4.5 new cases of corona were reported in the country on Tuesday. With this, the total number of cases crossed 2.17 crore while the total death toll has risen to 2.81 lakh with the death of 217 more. The number of active cases of corona dropped to 4.5 lakh, which is 1.6 per cent of the total cases. More than 2.09 crore patients have been cured in the country so far. Corona's daily positivity rate fell to 1.8 per cent from a weekly positivity rate of 7.5 per cent. Corona's recovery rate is 4.5 percent. In the last 3 hours, the number of active cases has decreased by 12,08.

However, the health ministry had expressed concern over the slowdown in the decline in Corona's case over the past few weeks. The ministry said Corona's positivity rate was more than 10 per cent in 12 states and nine districts in the union territories, well above the national average.

According to Love Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health, the average daily number of new cases dropped by 4.5 lakh between May 9-11 and only 2,060 between July 21-2. The rate of decline in Corona’s case has slowed over the past few weeks. In the last four weeks, eight districts in seven states have seen an additional trend in daily corona cases. Eight districts saw a decline in positivity rates, but now there are also increasing cases.

In the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Minister of State for Health Bharti Praveen Pawar said that the number of people suffering from coronary heart disease more than once in the country is very high. He said a study on the recurrence of SARS-COV-2 infection was published in the Cambridge University Press's Journal of Epidemiology and Infection. This study suggests that although the incidence of coronary heart disease is very low, no estimates can be made about a person's immune system. Many people in the country have fallen victim to Corona again.
