Retail inflation rises to 6.5 per cent in June

June saw a modest decline in retail inflation in the country. Retail inflation stood at 7.5 per cent in June. For the second month in a row, retail inflation has been above 5 per cent, according to data released by the government. In May 2011, retail inflation stood at 7.50 per cent.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) -based retail inflation has been on the rise due to rising fuel prices and expensive food items. Food inflation stood at 7.12 per cent in June. It was 3.01 per cent in May.

Vegetable prices declined by 0.2 per cent in June. Vegetables became dearer by 1.5 per cent in May. Inflation in the fuel and power sector rose to 12.5 per cent. Inflation in the sector rose to 11.5 per cent last month.

On the other hand, industrial production grew by 7.5 per cent in May 2011. Due to the low base effect, the IIP has increased by 7.5 per cent over last year.

According to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) has declined by 7.5 per cent in the same period last year. This decline was due to the Corona epidemic.

The manufacturing sector grew by 7.5 per cent in May. The manufacturing sector contracted by 6.5 per cent in the same period a year ago.
