People are worried about petrol price but there is a solution: Nitin Gadkari

New Delhi, July 12, 2021

Union Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari today inaugurated an LNG filling station in Nagpur. He said that alternative fuels like LNG, CNG and ethanol would bring relief to the people due to rising petrol prices, which is causing distress and agitation.

He said that using ethanol in fuel can save Rs 20 per liter as compared to petrol. Statistics show that it costs Rs 10 lakh to convert a conventional truck engine into an LNG engine. The truck travels about 98000 km in a year. Converting it to an LNG engine will save Rs 11 lakh per vehicle in 9 to 10 months.

"We are spending Rs 8 lakh crore on imports of petrol, diesel and petroleum products. We have formulated a policy which encourages the development of indigenous ethanol, CNG, LNG and hydrogen as fuel as an alternative," Gadkari said.

"Alternative fuels are being worked on. For this, rice, maize and sugar have to be saved from being wasted," he said.
