New Delhi, Dt

The central government had created a new co-operative ministry just before the biggest cabinet expansion in the second term of the Modi government. The helm of the ministry has been handed over to Home Minister Amit Shah. Amit Shah has extensive experience working in the co-operative sector in Gujarat. However, according to ongoing discussions in political circles, the co-operative sector in different states of the country is dominated by different parties. For instance, the BJP has a strong grip on the co-operative sector in Gujarat, while Sharad Pawar in Maharashtra, Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh and Mamata Banerjee in Bengal dominate the co-operative sector.

It is also being discussed that the Modi government has created a new ministry in the co-operative sector to break the dominance of the opposition in the co-operative sector. Another objective behind the formation of the new ministry is to curb irregularities in the sector. Even at the time of the ban, there were allegations of widespread manipulation of new and old notes in several co-operative banks. Political circles are also discussing that the Modi government has taken this step to curb irregularities in the co-operative sector.
