Law will be enforced if needed to curb population growth: Assam government

Guwahati: The Supreme Court recently passed a PIL to enforce the law to control population growth. The government also held meetings in Assam to curb population growth. A similar meeting was convened by Assam Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sarma.

The Assam Chief Minister held a meeting with more than 150 Muslim intellectuals to reflect on population growth. The Chief Minister said that legal action was being taken to curb the population growth in Assam. The matter was also discussed at a meeting with about 150 intellectuals on Sunday.

He also said that we are holding meetings with people of every religion and community and no one is opposed to stopping the population growth. If one tries to alleviate the problems of poverty, education etc. in the minorities, it should not be opposed and should be welcomed.

The primary goal of the state government is to strengthen health as well as educational activities. As part of these efforts, population growth will be curtailed. We want people to walk in front and try to curb population growth.
