John Barla, a tea gardener, is now a minister in the Modi government

In the Modi cabinet, BJP MP John Barla has been made Minister of State for Minority Affairs.

John Barla is a BJP MP from Alipurduar and a few years ago he was working in a tea garden and now he has become a Union Minister. His father's name is Thomas Barla. John is a resident of a tea garden in Jalpaiguri district. He was forced to leave his studies and start working in a tea garden.

He also worked as a temporary driver until 2007. In 2007, he joined the anti-Gorkhaland movement. He became a rising face of tribal society in the area.

Fighting for tribal issues, Jon joined the BJP in 2014 and won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Alipurduar.

John Barla came into the limelight recently because he demanded that North Bengal be given the status of a separate state from West Bengal. The TMC has also filed a number of cases against John, although he has now found a place in the Modi government's cabinet.
