It will take another six months for CAA rules to be formulated

The rules will be drafted and implemented by January 9, 2022

New Delhi: The government had informed the Lok Sabha that it would take another six months to formulate and implement the CAA rules. The amendment to this law came into force on January 10, 2020.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi questioned in the Lok Sabha whether the government had missed the time limit for formulating and enforcing the CAA rules. In response, Home Minister Nityanand Rai said that it could take another six months to formulate and implement the rules of the Citizenship Act passed in 2019.

The Union Minister said that these rules would be framed and implemented by January 9, 2022. Any rule-making ministry is required to outline its rules and send them to a parliamentary committee within six months of the enactment of the relevant law.
