Farmers are determined to hold a farmers' parliament from 9 am in Jantar Mantar

New Delhi, Dt

The Kisan Samyukta Morcha has called for a farmers' parliament. The Farmers' Parliament will begin on July 9, with about 200 farmers arriving at Jantar Mantar. This parliament of farmers will last till the monsoon session.

A meeting between farmers and Delhi Police on Sunday on the issue of holding a farmers' parliament at Jantar Mantar failed. At this meeting the farmer leaders informed the police of their program. He said the Delhi Police had not yet given any permission to hold the event. However, they are adamant to hold a peasant parliament. Delhi Police said they would be able to say something only after discussions with the administration and senior officials. One more meeting of farmers and police is likely to take place soon.

"We have informed the Delhi Police about our program," said farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal. From July 8, 200 farmers will reach Jantar Mantar by bus. There will be a peasant parliament. There has never been any talk of a siege of Parliament by farmers. He added that all the farmers going to Jantar Mantar will be given i-cards from the United Front, those who do not have i-cards will not be allowed to enter the farmers' parliament.

Another farmer leader, Shiv Kumar Kakka, said the police had asked him to relocate the farmers' parliament and reduce the number to 500. However, we have taken our case to the police. Now we are waiting for their answer.
