Biden backs Trump's policy of rejecting China's claims in the South China Sea

China will harass coastal countries: US

China has rejected a ruling by an international tribunal on the South China Sea

BEIJING: Tensions between the United States and China over the South China Sea have risen sharply. If Joe Biden first backed his predecessor Donald Trump's policy on the South China Sea issue, China called it a partisan stance. Not only that, but China also condemned an international ruling on the South China Sea.

There has been a steady increase in the number of Chinese warships in the South China Sea. There has also been an increase in harassment of countries along the South China Sea. The dispute between the Philippines and China over the issue continues to grow. Even though the Philippines has threatened war, China has continued to infiltrate Philippine waters.

This is the first time the Biden administration has challenged China on the issue. The United States has said that if China does not stop harassing countries along the South China Sea, it will have serious consequences.

Foreign Minister Anthony Blink said the international tribunal had rejected China's claim to the South China Sea and that what was happening in the Philippines was not fair. China should abide by that historic verdict five years from now.

China then rejected the international tribunal's ruling. The decision of the International South China Sea Tribunal to reject China's claim on the South China Sea came in 2016. Even then China refused to believe it.

China has repeatedly denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating "Similar, baseless allegations concerning China's intelligence have been made more than once. China alleges that the ruling was motivated by political interference and that its value is nothing more than a piece of paper.
