Amarinder Singh takes a hard line against Sidhu, writes letter to Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi, 16 July 2021 Friday

Tensions between Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu have reached a tipping point. After Sidhu's meeting with Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi today, Amarinder Singh has taken a tough stance and expressed his displeasure by writing a letter to the party's interim president. "If Sidhu is made the president of Punjab, the party will not be harmed in any way," Amarinder wrote in the letter.

In a letter to Sonia Gandhi, the captain, who was angry at Sidhu, said that Sidhu's way of working would hurt the Congress and divide it. Meanwhile, Harish Rawat is going to Chandigarh tomorrow to persuade the annoyed captain. He will meet the Chief Minister in the afternoon and present the High Command to him.

It may be mentioned here that the captain is annoyed with the speculation of making Sidhu the president. However, after Sidhu's meeting with Sonia, the party has postponed Punjab's decision at the present stage. Sidhu met Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Harish Rawat. The party is claiming that Sonia Gandhi will soon take a decision which will be made public.

It is believed that for more than a week, the efforts of the party high command have not been seen to be successful. The news of Sidhu being made president has angered the captain. Both Sidhu and Amarinder leaders staged a show of strength in Chandigarh. Following the Captain's letter, it is believed that the ongoing tensions in the Punjab Congress will not end soon.
