42,000 new cases of corona in the country, prolonged lockdown in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi: There has been a modest increase in daily cases of corona virus in India. In the last 24 hours, 42,766 new cases of corona were reported. While the number of active cases came down to 4.55 lakh. Which is 1.48 per cent of the total cases. The death toll, on the other hand, reached 4,07,145 with a further 1206 deaths. As many as 19.55 lakh tests were conducted on Friday.

The G-20 meeting is currently underway, which was attended by finance ministers and central bank governors on the second day. Speaking at the meeting, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaram spoke about Korona.

Kerala and Maharashtra alone account for more than 50 per cent of the corona cases in the last one week. At the same time, more than 85 cases are coming up every day in the last one week in 12 districts of Tamil Nadu. While 80 per cent of the total cases in the country have come up in 90 districts of 15 states. The government has had to extend the lockdown till July 19 as the situation in Tamil Nadu deteriorated.

In Kerala too, 14,000 cases of corona have been reported in the last 24 hours. On the other hand, the inclusion of covacin in India could take four to six weeks to be included in the Emergency Use List (EUL), according to the World Health Organization.

Speaking at a webinar organized by the Center for Science and Environment (CSE), Swaminathan, chief scientist at the World Health Organization, said, "We will add covexin to the list in four to six weeks." This may help in the emergency use of this vaccine in other countries as well.
