18 killed, 25 injured in truck-bus collision on Lucknow-Ayodhya highway

Lucknow: At least 18 people were killed and eight others injured when a bus collided with a truck in Uttar Pradesh. The accident took place on the Lucknow-Ayodhya highway. At night, a private bus carrying 150 passengers collided with a truck coming from behind in the Kotwali area here.

According to police, the bus had a defect, which led to it being parked on the side of the road. Later, a truck coming at flood speed overtook the bus. When the accident happened, some passengers were resting next to the bus and some inside the bus.

Eleven people died on the spot while seven others were rushed to hospital. Most of those killed are Bihar laborers. He was returning to his homeland after harvesting crops in Punjab and Haryana. Police rushed to the spot as soon as they got information about the accident. Heavy rains were also falling at the time of the accident, which hampered relief efforts.

The passengers who got out when the bus fell into the parking lot survived. While 4 other people were injured in the accident, they have been taken to hospital for treatment. The condition of some of them is also serious. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Yogi Adityanath and announced assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the family of the slain and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
