New Delhi: A study has claimed that 17,000 people have died due to heatwave in India in the last 50 years. Between 1971 and 2019, the country experienced 706 heatwave incidents. The figures were compiled based on a study by scientists associated with the country's top meteorologists. In which the effect of heatwave in the country was studied.

This research paper was presented by the Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, M. Prepared by Rajivan, Scientists Kamaljit Ray, SS Ray, RK Giri and AP Dimri. The main author of this paper is Kamaljit Ray. Heatwave tops the list of weather-related effects on humans.

In the last 50 years, 1,71,308 people have died as a result of extreme weather events from 1971-2019. In which 17362 people died due to heatwave. Which is 12 percent compared to deaths from weather-related events. The highest death toll from the heatwave was in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha.

The core heatwave zone (CHZ) is considered to be the most prawn area for the heatwave. These areas include Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. Heatwave is most affected in North India. In many parts, the temperature reached 40 degrees this week.
