New Delhi: Heavy rains lashed the country. In states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, many people lost their lives due to rains. Five people were killed in lightning strikes in Madhya Pradesh. More than 18 were injured. Nine people were killed in heavy rains in Karnataka. The death toll in Maharashtra rose to 112.

Five people were killed and more than 18 were injured in lightning strikes in Madhya Pradesh's Panna district. Lightning struck villages like Ureha, Pipariya, Daun, Simrakhurd in Panna district. Five were killed and at least 18 were injured in the blasts.

Karnataka, on the other hand, received heavy rains. Nine people were killed in the rain that hit with stormy winds. Three were missing. The coastal region of Karnataka was inundated due to strong winds and heavy rains.

There were also landslides. 35,000 people living in low-lying areas were evacuated. 22,000 people were housed in shelters. About 300 people were sheltered in relief camps.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority, 283 villages in 45 talukas of the state were affected and relief operations were launched in those villages. Incidents like heavy rains, landslides damaged 2600 houses. 78 animals also died.

The standing crop has been severely damaged. An estimated 59,000 hectares of standing crops have been destroyed. 555 km of road has been washed away. Several villages were plunged into blackout as 3500 electricity pylons collapsed. Rains in Maharashtra caused landslides. The death toll rose to 112.

The incidents took place due to heavy rains in Raigad, Satara, Ratnagiri. 1.40 lakh people were evacuated. More than 78,000 were evacuated from Sagali district and more than 40 from Kolhapur. 34 teams of the National Disaster Response Force are conducting rescue operations.
