The families of those who died in the epidemic were given Rs. Centre's refusal to provide Rs 4 lakh assistance to the Supreme Court

The Disaster Management Act can only compensate for natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, not in Corona.

Compensating the families of those killed by Corona is beyond our and the state's reach: Center

Corona has left many families in the country in financial trouble due to the loss of employment and the death of the main breadwinner in the family. A hearing is underway in the Supreme Court to provide financial compensation to such families. Presenting its case in the case, the Center told the apex court that the financial situation of the Center and the states was bad and the government had provided Rs. Not able to pay compensation of Rs 2-3 lakh. The central government had also filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in this regard.

The Center told the Supreme Court that the financial position of the Center and the state governments is very bad. As a result, governments have provided Rs. It is not possible to give compensation of Rs 2-3 lakh. In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the Home Ministry said that under the Disaster Management Act, there is provision for compensation only in natural calamities like earthquakes and floods. It would be completely wrong to compensate for death from one disease and not from another. Therefore, compensation of Rs 5 lakh cannot be given to Koro victims.

The ministry further said that under Section 12 of the Disaster Management Act, 2006, the central government has taken immediate steps to provide health, infrastructure and food security to every citizen to facilitate the citizens. The total death toll from corona in the country has risen to more than 2.5 lakh so far. In such circumstances, it is beyond the capacity of the Central and State Governments to provide financial assistance to such a large number of families.

The sharp fall in tax revenue and significant spending in the health sector has led to a financial crunch and the Corona has put tremendous pressure on the central and state governments. In such a situation, if the victims of Koro are compensated, it will ultimately affect the cost of health and public welfare programs. Unfortunately the government has limited resources and any additional burden of compensation to Koro victims will affect the cost of funds available for other health and welfare schemes. In addition, compensating the families of those who have died from corona can lead to other legal complications.

In addition, the central government said it would not be appropriate to apply compensation for natural disasters due to the spread and impact of the corona. It cannot be applied to the epidemic of corona. Compensating people can do more harm than good.
