Unlike last year, the government did not release the full April IIP figures

The government has refused to release full industrial production (IIP) figures for April. The same was done in April last year following a nationwide lockdown.

Even in June last year, the National Statistical Office (NSO) did not release complete IIP data following the national lockdown. Industrial production has also been affected this year following a partial lockdown.

According to the partial data released by NSO today, the IIP (General Index) in April, 2021 has been 12.5 points. It may be mentioned that in April, 2020, the IIP was 9 points and in April, 2017, the IIP was 12.5 points.

In April, 2020, industrial production fell by 7.5 per cent. Compared to the same period last year, April, 2021 saw an increase of 12 per cent in IIP. However this growth has been seen due to the low base effect.

However, there was no significant increase in IIP in April, 2021 compared to the same period in 2012.

It may be mentioned that even in 2021, following the second wave of Corona, partial lockdown was announced in most of the states. Which had the opposite effect on industrial production.
