Tweak Nirav Modi: British High Court rejects extradition petition

- The main accused in the Rs 13,500 crore PNB scam

- Modi now has five days to appeal again for an oral hearing

London: The British High Court has rejected an application against the extradition of fugitive diamond industrialist Nirav Modi to India. Nirav Modi, accused in Punjab National Bank's Rs 1,200 crore Punjab National Bank scam, had filed an application in the London High Court against India's extradition petition.

Nirav Modi has lost the first phase battle after the High Court rejected his application. He now has only five days left to appeal again for an oral hearing.

In April this year, British Home Minister Preeti Patel approved the extradition of Nirav Modi to India. Earlier, on February 9, Westminster Court District Judge Nirav Modi was extradited to Britain.

Nirav Modi had challenged the verdict in the British High Court.

In the petition, Nirav Modi expressed concern over the poor conduct of the case in India and its targeting for political reasons. The petition further stated that the condition of prisons in India is bad and the evidence against me is weak. According to Forbes' 2017 list, Nirav Modi had assets worth 1.30 billion (Rs 11,200 crore).
