The monsoon reached about half the country in one week, 6 days earlier than usual

The monsoon will reach parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in the next 48 hours, the meteorological department said. In the next two days, it may reach western Uttar Pradesh and some areas of Uttarakhand. Therefore, the department has forecast early arrival of monsoon in Delhi, noting that monsoon in Delhi usually arrives by the end of June.

The department said the monsoon has reached Odisha today, a red alert has been declared in the state for the next two days and heavy rains have been warned for the next five days. However, IMD scientist Ashish Kumar said there was a speculation that the monsoon would enter Bihar in the next 48 hours. Yellow and orange warnings have been issued in Bihar.

The southwest monsoon reached Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, seven days ahead of its normal time. IMD has issued Orange Alert for Jabalpur and Shahdol division districts. PK Saha, a leading meteorologist at the Meteorological Department, Bhopal, said it had rained in many parts of the state, including Bhopal, Jabalpur and Gwalior, in the last 24 hours.

Saha said, “The northern border of monsoon passes through Betul and Mandla districts of Madhya Pradesh. With this the monsoon has reached some parts of the state. The monsoon usually arrives in Madhya Pradesh on June 17. This is probably the first time it has come seven days early. The Orange and Yellow Warning will be in effect until Friday morning.

15 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in various parts of Maharashtra in view of heavy rains forecast. NDRF Director General SN Pradhan tweeted that four teams have been deployed in Ratnagiri, two each in Sindhudurg, Palghar, Raigad, Thane and one in Kurla (East Mumbai suburb).
