New Delhi: The government today hiked the support price of paddy by Rs 3 per quintal for the year 2021-21. At the same time, the support price of paddy has gone up to Rs 150 per quintal. The government has hiked support prices for various kharif crops from 30 per cent to 5 per cent.

Paddy is the main kharif crop and is sown with the onset of southwest monsoon. The meteorological department has forecast normal rainfall for the period from June to September.

The decision to increase support prices for kharif crops was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government has taken this decision at a time when the southwest monsoon is beginning in the country and farmers are preparing for sowing kharif crops.

After the cabinet meeting, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said the decision to increase support prices has been taken in the interest of farmers and will be taken in the interest of farmers in the future as well.

It may be mentioned that the government has increased the support price of paddy for the crop year 2021-21 (July-June) to Rs 150 per quintal from Rs 15 a year ago. It may be mentioned that the support price of kharif crops is increased at regular intervals.

The cabinet meeting approved the decision to allocate five MHz spectrum for railways. Union Minister Javadekar said in a statement that the decision has been taken to allot five MHz of 500 MHz spectrum to Indian Railways to improve the communication and signal system.

He said the cabinet decision would improve the safety of passengers and the network in transport. The project is estimated to cost Rs 5,000 crore and will be completed in the next five years. Railways currently have to rely on optical fiber for communication networks. The allocation of new spectrum will enable the use of high speed radio.
